Product Description

Loxica XP is the combination of lornoxicam and paracetamol.
Lornoxicam is an anti-inflammatory drug which comes under oxicam class of drug with its analgesic effect.
Paracetamol is a pain reliever and antipyretic properties. It is mainly used for headache and other minor pains.

  • Osteo or rheumatoid arthritis
  • Anti-inflammatory and anti-pyretic
Mechanism of action

Lornoxicam
It acts by inhibition of synthesis of progesterone and thromboxane synthesis through inhibition of both COX-1 and COX-2. This causes reduction in pain, inflammation and swelling.
Paracetamol
It follows similar action as that of lornoxicam. Paracetamol is a weak inhibitor for prostaglandin synthesis. It decreases the PG concentration but does not produce action against inflammation in arthritis.

Absorption
After oral administration it is rapidly absorbed in GI tract. About 90-100% of the drug is absorbed.
Distribution
The plasma protein binding of the drug is about 99%. The drug is metabolized by cyp 2C9.
Excretion
The drug is excreted in unchanged form in urine. Nearly about 2/3 of the drug is excreted by liver and 1/3 of the drug by kidney in active form.
Paracetamol
Absorption
It is rapidly absorbed from the GI tract with the volume of distribution about 50L.
Distribution
It is metabolized in liver into its toxic and non-toxic products.
Excretion
About 85-90% of the drug is excreted in urine.

Contraindications

The tablet is contraindicated in patients with

    • Peptic ulcer
    • Salicylate sensitivity
    • Gastrointestinal bleeding
    • Severe renal and liver impairement
    • In pregnancy and lactation
    • Hypersensitivity to paracetamol
    • Sensitivity with other constituents
