Ambroxol is used for the treatment respiratory diseases and is a secretolytic agent. It is used for the treatment of visid or excessive mucus and is a mucoactive agent. It also produces secretolytic and secretomotoric actions which causes the clearance of respiratory tract and also produces body defense mechanism.
Terbutaline is a beta-adrenergic receptor agonist and used for the treatment of asthma symptoms.
Guaifenesin is an expectorant and helps in relieving congestion in chest and throat

Mechanism of action
Ambroxol is a mucolytic agent. It inhibits the NO dependent activation of soluble guanylate cyclase which can suppress excessive mucus secretion. It also suppresses phlegm viscosity and improves the mucocilary transport of bronchial secretions.
Terbutaline causes stimulation of beta-adrenergic receptors of adenyl-cyclase. It catalyses the conversion of ATP to c-AMP and c AMP levels are associated with relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle.
Guaiphenesin reduces the viscosity of secretion and act as an expectorant in trachea and bronchi. It aids the flow of respiratory tract secretion, loosened the mucus secretion.
After oral administration it gets rapidly and completely absorbed in the body.
The distribution half life is 1.3hrs. The drug changes to its metabolite as dibromoanthranilic acid
The excretion of the drug is through urine. Renal clearance is approximately 53 ml/minute; approximately 5-6% of a dose is excreted unchanged in the urine.
It is rapidly absorbed after oral administration. The peak plasma concentration is 9.6ng/mL.
It is well distributed in the body with the peak serum concentration of 5.2 and 5.3ng/ml.
The elimination half life is 2.9hrs. About 90% of the drug is excreted in urine with 60% of the drug is excreted in unchanged form.
After administration rapidly absorbed from GI tract
After administration it gets hydrolyzed about 60% of the drug with in7hrs.
- Hypersensitivity with any of the ingredient
- Terbutaline is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitive to sympathomimetic amines
- In first trimester of pregnancy
- Cautiously to patients with gastric ulceration
- Ambroxol is not recommended for nursing mothers because the drug is transferred to breast milk
- Can cause kidney stones, nausea and vomiting
